TIA Publishes Four New Standards

TIA published four new standards: High Rate Packet Data Air Interface Specification, TIA-856-A-1-[E]; Short Message Services (SMS) for Wideband Spread Spectrum Systems, TIA-637-C-1[E]; Short Message Service (SMS) for Wideband Spread Spectrum Systems, TIA-637-B-1-[E]; Wireless Radio Telecommunication Intersystem Non- Signaling Data Communication DMH (Data Message Handler), TIA-124-E.

High Rate Packet Data Air Interface Specification, TIA-856-A-1-[E], specifies technical requirements that form a compatibility standard for cdma2000® high rate packet data systems. These requirements ensure that a compliant access terminal can obtain service through any access network conforming to this standard. These requirements do not address the quality or reliability of that service, nor do they cover equipment performance or measurement procedures. As a result, detailed procedures are specified for access terminals to ensure a uniform response to all access networks. Access network procedures, however, are specified only to the extent necessary for compatibility with those specified for the access terminal.

Short Message Services (SMS) for Wideband Spread Spectrum Systems, TIA-637-C-1[E], comprises technical requirements that form a standard for a Short Messaging Service (SMS), providing delivery of text and numeric information for paging, messaging and voice mail notification. This standard includes Service Option 6 and Service Option 14, which support delivery of short messages on Traffic Channels. Service Option 6 and Service Option 14 conform to the general requirements for service options. A mobile station can obtain Short Message Service operating in either the analog or the spread spectrum (CDMA) mode when it conforms to this standard. This standard does not address the quality or reliability of Short Message Service, nor does it cover equipment performance or measurement procedures.

Short Message Service (SMS) for Wideband Spread Spectrum Systems, TIA-637-B-1-[E], forms a standard for a Short Message Service (SMS), providing delivery of text and numeric information for paging, messaging and voice mail notification.

Wireless Radio Telecommunication Intersystem Non- Signaling Data Communication DMH (Data Message Handler), TIA-124-E, describes the procedures and messages required to perform call detail record data transmission between systems. This standard is complimentary to TIA-41, Cellular Radiotelecommunication Intersystem Operations and identifies wireless services specifically involving non-signaling data communication which require intersystem cooperation, presents the general background against which those services are to be provided and summarizes the principal considerations that have governed and directed the particular approaches taken in the procedural recommendations.

TIA-856-A-1-[E] was created by TIA TR-45 Mobile and Personal Communication Systems, TR-45.5 Subcommittee on Spread Spectrum Digital Technology and released February 2007. TIA-637-C-1[E] was created by TIA TR-45 Mobile and Personal Communications Systems, TR-45.5 Subcommittee on Spread Spectrum Digital Technology and released February 2007. TIA-637-B-1-[E] was created by TIA TR-45 Mobile and Personal Communication Systems, TR 45.5 Subcommittee on Spread Spectrum Digital Technology and released November 2006. TIA-124-E was created by TIA-TR-45 Mobile and Personal Communication Systems, TR-45.2 Subcommittee on Wireless Intersystem Technology and released December 2006.
