If you want to grow your company’s business, and find the hot new markets in 2008, think international.
TIA’s 2008 Telecommunications Market Review and Forecast reports that 2007 was the fourth consecutive year of double-digit gain…averaging 12.5 percent in Canada, Europe, Middle East/Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific. Growth was generated by an explosive broadband market, continued growth in wireless services fueled by both rising wireless subscribership, and increased revenue per user from value-added wireless applications, public network upgrades that facilitate broadband and wireless growth, and higher spending on services in support of enterprise and public network equipment.
A few other forward-looking international highlights from among hundreds in TIA’s 350+ page annual industry report:
- In Europe, broadband value-added wireless services and related infrastructure upgrades will be the principal market drivers.
- In Asia Pacific, the roll-out of high-speed wireless networks and broadband subscriber growth will be the main drivers. Mobile television, mobile Internet and mobile content in general have become large market segments.
- To address Africa’s inadequate landline infrastructure and Middle East’s limited broadband capacity, governments are opening markets to competition and issuing new mobile licenses.
- In Latin America, following four years of dramatic increases in telephone connectivity, the focus is shifting to upgrading wireless networks to accommodate high-speed applications and to developing broadband.
- In Canada, where regulatory changes are making the market more competitive, wireless upgrades will generate new wireless services to expand penetration and boost revenue.
- TIA expects Asia Pacific to be the fastest-growing region and the only one to record double-digit increases during each of the next four years. Revenue growth will average 13 percent compounded annually, increasing to $1.4 trillion in 2011.
