MRV Communications - OS 930

MRV’s new OptiSwitch® 930 is the industry’s first 10-Gigabit Ethernet services demarcation device that offers carriers a new revenue stream by providing end-to-end 10 Gbps metro Ethernet VPN services for their top tier, Fortune 1000 customers. Winner of NXTcomm’s 2007 Eos award for best optical transport product, the OptiSwitch 930 will be demonstrated first at the tradeshow (June 19-21 in Chicago) in booth 7824.

Part of MRV’s OptiSwitch metro Ethernet access product family, the OS930, is a single rack-unit demarcation device that features three 10-Gigabit Ethernet hot-swappable XFP LAN/WAN (10G Ethernet/OC192) interfaces along with advanced Ethernet carrier features including hierarchical QoS, dynamic bandwidth and traffic management optimization and end-to-end OAM service management. The OS930 is deployed at the customer premise and serves as the demarcation between the public network and the customer network. The device enables the delivery of Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) defined Ethernet private line (EPL), point-to-point Ethernet (E-Line) and point-to-multipoint Ethernet (E-LAN) services at either 10 Gbps or fractional speeds.

The OptiSwitch 930 enables traffic management based on an innovative class of service (CoS)-aware rate limit that can dynamically re-allocate unused bandwidth. The QoS feature makes available the bandwidth that was allocated for real-time or high priority applications when these services are not active, allowing for automatic provisioning of bandwidth at the access and demarcation points of the network without complex configuration sets at the aggregation layer. In addition, this feature enables innovative service level agreements that can differentiate a carrier from its competitors.

It also has high-availability features including network port protection, hot-swappable XFPs and dual-redundant and hot-swappable power supplies. These capabilities give it a 99.999% level of reliability to match the mission critical nature of 10G Ethernet services.

The OptiSwitch 930 also provides carrier-grade network management by enabling a holistic, end-to-end view of the service. Its OAM features enforce service level agreements (SLA) and provide simplified network management for 10G Ethernet packet switched and transport networks. The OS930 incorporates enhanced standards compliance to IEEE/IETF/MEF OAM that enables connectivity, discovery and fault management along with delay, jitter and frame loss performance statistics for demarcation and intermediate points of service.
