As you know, standards aim to maximize long-term benefits to users, industry and society by facilitating the exchange of goods and services through the creation and adoption of common technical approaches for trade and commerce. The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has been active in ITS standardization work for more than a decade. TIA is the ANSI-designated Secretariat of TC204, responsible for overall administrative support for ISO/TC 204. In addition, TIA serves as Administrator of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) to ISO/TC204, the main body responsible for international ITS standardization which supports the U.S. in:

• Developing the U.S. positions on TC204 ballots and other matters;
• Appointing U.S. experts to TC204 Working Groups;
• Designating the U.S. delegation to TC204 meetings; and
• Developing new work items proposals for TC204 consideration.

Continued U.S. involvement in ISO/TC 204 needs your active participation and support. Your participation in ISO/TC204 and support for a U.S.-based Secretariat will help advance critical technical standards that will have long-term benefits to your company or agency, the ITS industry, and society as a whole.
