Sinclair-AIRDISScott J. Sinclair started off in the industry as an apprentice cabling technician in 1994 and then started a company in 1998 called Cable Max Solutions, Inc. Cable Max specialized in structured cabling, namely Category 3, 5, 5e, 6 and Fiber Optics. In about 2001, Cable Max became an Avaya Business Partner and began installing SMBS phone systems. Cable Max's next step was to begin providing consultation to phone system and cabling customers on which company to choose as their network service provider. Customers were also dissatisfied with the service they were receiving. To address these concerns and provide one place to call, AIRDIS Telecom was formed to expedite customer repairs in a timely and efficient manner.

Mr. Sinclair spoke with TIA Network staff about AIRDIS Telecom.

How is AIRDIS addressing current trends in the industry?

Although the economic climate in the United States is one of contraction and caution, AIRDIS is experiencing upward trending sales results. We have found that multi-site businesses are eager to take advantage of the latest technology features and benefits that can help them save money. For example, we have installed more VPN and MPLS telecom networks using VoIP to connect phone systems, replacing the private-line networks that previously existed. Our competitive edge is our bridge-building ability.  Simply put, AIRDIS bridges the gap between service and equipment providers, giving our customers an honest assessment of which technologies are useful and which ones are not.

Tell our readers about the recent Vendor Showcase you held and why it was so successful.

AIRDIS recently hosted a vendor showcase event where we invited customers and prospects to come and test drive some of today’s latest end-user telecom equipment and applications. The companies that helped make this possible were Avaya, Polycom, Plantronics, Spectralink, Bogen and Techmedix. Each manufacturer demonstrated its PBX, VoIP, Bluetooth and or Wireless devices and how all the products work together to form the synergy most customers take for granted. All too often the sales process is muddied by RFPs and low-bid awards. Customers rarely get the opportunity to experience the value these products really deliver without cost as a distraction. The event was focused on education, and as a result, the prospects and customers were more receptive, and that enabled them to simply experience how the technology could benefit their respective organizations.

Please tell us the value you gain from your TIA membership.

AIRDIS Telecom is a new member of TIA and has not yet taken full advantage of all the association has to offer. We have, however, enjoyed the credibility benefit of being a proud member of the leading telecom industry trend-setting institution, TIA.  Furthermore, the mere mention of AIRDIS Telecom in this publication gives us the exposure and return on the investment of our annual membership fee.

What publications do you follow to stay in the know?

We read local business publications to stay connected with our local climate, as well as TELEPHONY Online, Phone+ Mag and Telecom Business Daily to keep connected with technology trends.
