TIA welcomes one of its newest members, Samdale!
For more than 20 years, Samdale, based near Chelmsford in the United Kingdom, has been recognized not only as one of the world's leading independent Professional Mobile Radio/Specialised Mobile Radio (PMR/SMR) consultancies but also as a supplier of innovative products and services. With contracts in many diverse countries from the Europe to the Far East, Samdale has specialized in the support of Public Safety Digital SMR users.
Samdale was formed in 1987 and since 1991 has focused exclusively on Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) initially supporting analogue-trunked radio systems such as the widely used MPT1327 and from 1998, TETRA Digital Radio Systems. Outside the United States, Samdale has traditionally been a supporter of standards institutions such as ETSI and MPT and has always recognised the value these bodies play in developing stable and cost effective technologies.
Uniquely, Samdale's consultants have extensive experience of Public Safety PMR/SMR Systems, as well as intimate knowledge of subscriber equipment from all the major manufacturers.
Graham Moore is Samdale’s Director of International Business Development and has worked with the company since its inception. In the past he has represented companies such as Philips, Marconi and Nokia at various times in his career and was one of Nokia’s TIA members during the early TR-8.14 process. He has been involved in PMR/SMR for 30 years and has represented companies around the world, including the UK, USA, Germany, Finland and South Africa.
Mr. Moore spoke with TIA Network staff about Samdale.
Describe the international business development goals of Samdale.
Outside of the United States, Samdale has offered the most comprehensive range of products and services to support public safety TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) users backed by a team of consultants whose TETRA expertise is unmatched anywhere in the world. TETRA is an international standard for digital SMR communications used world-wide in similar environments to P25 in the USA.
Samdale’s market has traditionally been based on TETRA technology, with many contracts in the United Kingdom, Western Europe and the Far East. With the investment of our new majority shareholder, Dominion SA of Spain, we are now able to broaden our horizons and address new and exciting markets and technologies of which the U.S. P25 market must surely be one of the first.
We have in our portfolio a suite of products that although initially developed for the European market, are just as applicable to the U.S. digital SMR environment. With our U.S. partner we will be able to deliver products and services that until now have been largely unavailable in the United States. I must admit that I am looking forward to rising to the challenge and, on a more personal note, look forward to meeting some of my old friends in TIA again.
As a self-described “champion for the cause of public safety users,” how do your products and services meet this goal?
Samdale has always championed the cause of public safety, whether working directly with users or with service providers. Our dedication to developing tools and services to enable the delivery of the best possible communications to our public safety professionals is core to Samdale’s mission.
Through close working relationships with end users migrating to digital professional mobile radio technologies, Samdale has developed a number of systems to provide efficient validation and optimization of these complex systems.
Samdale’s PEGASUS product is the latest offering that comprises a family of systems for real-time monitoring and optimization of digital radio networks. For a description of the PEGASUS product, click here.
Please tell us the value you gain from your TIA membership.
As a strong supporter of industry standards processes, it is an absolute necessity for Samdale to be a part of industry associations such as TIA. As our products are inherently linked to the standards that these bodies define, TIA membership allows us at first hand to be part of the process. TIA membership also allows us to meet with prospective customers and to be responsive to their requirements, something that is fundamental in an industry where communications really is a matter of life and death.
