TIA and ISO/TC204 Continue to Lead the Way in Defining ITS Architecture

The International Organization for Standardization’s Technical Committee 204 (ISO/TC204) for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), is pleased to announce the upcoming publication of numerous technical reports designed to further define ITS architecture.

Led by the United Kingdom; Working Group 1 (Architecture) is developing standards, technical reports and specifications designed to facilitate the common use of terms, sharing of concepts and unification of methods to describe documents and services in the ITS sector.

Recently or soon-to-be published documents include:

  • ISO/TR 25100 – Systems architecture – Harmonization of ITS data concepts (estimated publication April 2008)
  • ISO/TR 25102:2008 – System architecture – “Use Case” pro-forma template (published February 2008)
  • ISO/TR 25104: 2008 – System architecture, taxonomy, terminology and data modeling – Training requirements for ITS architecture (published March 2008)

As both the ISO/TC204 International Secretariat and the Administrator of the U.S. TAG – the domestic mirror committee – to ISO/TC204, TIA plays a central role in helping shape standardization in this emerging and dynamic field. Membership in the U.S. TAG is open to all materially affected organizations with a U.S. presence. Currently there is no fee to join the U.S. TAG, although sponsorships are welcome. If you would like to participate in the technical work of either group, or are interested in attending the next meeting of the U.S. TAG as an observer, please contact Tyler Messa at: tmessa@tiaonline.org or +1.703.907.7743.

Standards Committee Meetings

The most recent TIA TR-49 Healthcare ICT meeting was held April 9, 2008, via teleconference. There were preliminary discussions on new membership, working group structures and previous meeting reports. If you have any questions about this meeting, please contact the TR-49 Chairperson, Shoshana Loeb, at shoshi@research.telcordia.com

On April 3, TR-48 Telematics held its monthly teleconference. At this meeting, presentations were made on Emergency Information Delivery Model, Telematics Service Models and Nomadic Devices in ITS. For the next meeting on May 1, a contribution about an emergency information delivery model using widgets is expected, and the committee plans to start a project on that issue.

TIA Revises cdma2000® Spectrum Assignment Bulletin

TIA has published Telecommunications Systems Bulletin TSB-58-H: Administration of Parameter Value Assignment of cdma2000® Spread Spectrum Standards, which replaces Bulletin TSB-58-G. As the new authorized registry for cdma2000® standards, Bulletin TSB-58-H enhances the scope and effectiveness of spectrum standards administration.

As new voice and non-voice-related services are defined, new parameter values must be assigned, which may cause confusion. To safeguard accuracy and streamline administration of standards for new services, Bulletin TSB-58-H assigns values to the numerical parameters (e.g., service options and Data Burst Message burst types) that have been reserved by the 3GPP2 Technical Specification Group C’s master registry, which deals with CDMA wireless services.

Bulletin TSB-58-H was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-45: Mobile and Personal Communications Systems Engineering Committee’s TR-45.5: Spread Spectrum Digital Technology Subcommittee. To obtain copies of the document, contact Information Handling Services at +1.800.854.7179 or visit http://global.ihs.com.

For technical information regarding participating in the TR-45 committee please contact Peter Bogard at pbogard@tiaonline.org

cdma2000® is a registered trademark and certification mark of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA-USA) in the United States.
