Did you know that the U.S. landline market has moved into its next phase of evolution? And that landline telephone service revenue has declined since 2000? In fact, TIA expects it to continue declining through 2011, but at a slower rate than during the past several years.
According to the TIA 2008 Telecommunications Market Review and Forecast now on press, the landline evolution has traditional telephone companies actively competing in the television distribution market, offering triple-play service bundles using their own facilities. These combine landline, Internet access and TV packages, with wireless added in some cases to create a quadruple-play.
The comprehensive 400-page TIA annual market report projects the overall landline segment to grow faster during the next four years than during 2007, averaging 1.9 percent compounded annually to $322.6 billion in 2011 from $299.3 billion in 2007. The authoritative report also predicts:
- Bundled services will be a key market driver during the next four years.
- Cable system operators will no longer have the triple-play market to themselves.
- Head-to-head competition should lead to attractive deals for consumers.
- Customers who subscribe to two or more services from the same provider are less likely to switch providers.
- In 2007, 40 percent of residential landlines were bundled with at least one other service, up from 26 percent in 2006. By 2011, 82 percent of residential landlines will be part of a bundle.
