TR-42/FO-4 Merger Complete

Last week, the long-awaited merger of two key TIA engineering committees became official: TR-42: User Premises Telecommunications Cabling Infrastructure and FO-4: Fiber Optics merged at their meeting in Tampa, Fla. The committees were merged to create a synergy of leadership and other committee resources, an obvious result of combining the efforts of the two cable-oriented groups.

All future meetings will be held jointly, and former FO-4 subcommittees will now be labeled as TR-42 subcommittees: FO-4.1: Optical Systems will be TR-42.11: Optical Systems, and so on.

For more information on TR-42, please contact Marianna Kramarikova at +1.703.907.7706 or mkramarikova@tiaonline.org.

TIA Submits 1137 Documents for Legal Review

This week, TIA sent the TIA-1137 series of documents for legal review, a key step in establishing the up-to-date version of the wireless-IP standard. TIA's TR-45.6: cdma2000® Wireless Packet Data Technology - Mobile and Personal Communications Standards Subcommittee and related staff oversee the execution of the standard, including all legal filings.

TIA-1137 defines an architecture model and set of specifications for a Converged Access Network (CAN) that can support real-time services such as VoIP, Video Telephony or voice and video streaming. The proposed architecture supports multiple access technologies including the Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) air interface.

TIA staff also continues to prepare for the upcoming TR-45 subcommittee meetings in China.
