TIA Member Spotlight:

TIA welcomes one of its newest members, Oscilloquartz!

OscilloquartzLogoFor more than 50 years Oscilloquartz (OSA) has been a pioneer in the domain of time and frequency. Today, Oscilloquartz is recognized as one of the most advanced manufacturers of frequency sources, such as quartz crystal oscillators, GPS receivers or Cesium clocks, for telecommunications applications. Oscilloquartz is also one of the leading providers of sync solutions for turnkey synchronization projects in PDH, SDH, SONET and all kinds of mobile telecom networks, i.e., GSM, X-CDMA, TETRA, 2.xG, 3G, 4G, UMTS, etc.

Stable frequency sources are crucial to the effective transmission of digital signals. Since its outset, Oscilloquartz has specialized in frequency technology and has developed quartz crystal oscillators to the highest level of technical achievement. Unique among synchronization equipment vendors, Oscilloquartz manufactures its own oscillators in its state-of the art facility in Malaysia.

A member of the SWATCH GROUP of electronic companies, Oscilloquartz is based in Neuchatel, Switzerland. In addition, it has facilities in the United States, France, China and Malaysia. It has sales and support operations in more than 60 countries.

OscilloquartsCEOAubryDr. Jean Pierre Aubry is CEO of Oscilloquartz SA, Neuchâtel, Switzerland. He received his PhD in Material Physics in 1979 from University of Nancy, France, on the characterization of electronic transitions splitting by the Stark and Zeeman effect in rare earth ions embedded in a crystalline matrix.

Dr. Aubry joined Thomson Group in France in the Quartz and Oscillator division in 1979, where he rose to become Technical Manager in 1996. He was involved in new piezoelectric material studies, new resonator structure for high immunity against environmental perturbations, very high frequency devices (bulk wave resonator at direct frequency greater than 1 GHz via ion beam milling and chemical etching, on inverted mesa resonator structure), high stability oscillators and others time and frequency devices.

Dr. Aubry joined Oscilloquartz SA in 1996 as Technical Manager for the frequency sources division, and he was elected CEO in 1998.

He is author or co-author of a number of technical papers and patents in the field of time and frequency devices, piezoelectric material, high frequency devices and low G sensitivity oscillators for airborne radars and clocks for telecommunications applications. Dr. Aubry was involved in the design of BVA resonators and high stability oscillators, to bring the first commercial oscillator in the 10-14 range of Allan variance. Dr. Aubry is a member of the scientific committee of the EFTF, European Frequency and Time Forum.

Dr. Aubrey spoke with TIA Network about Oscilloquartz.

Give us an overview of the products Oscilloquartz manufactures, and in particular, your new synchronization product, the OSA-5548C-TSG Timing Signal Generator for North America.

For more than 50 years, Oscilloquartz (OSA) has been a pioneer in the domain of time and frequency. Today, Oscilloquartz is recognized as one of the most advanced manufacturers of frequency sources, such as quartz crystal oscillators, GPS receivers or Cesium clocks for telecommunications applications. Oscilloquartz is also one of the leading providers of sync solutions for turnkey synchronization projects in PDH, SDH, SONET and all kinds of mobile telecom networks, such as GSM, X-CDMA, TETRA, 2G, UMTS, 3G, 4G, WIMAX, and DVB

For quartz crystal oscillators, our flagship is certainly the ultra stable BVA resonator. BVA technology highlights our capability to manufacture, in industrial quantities, the best quartz oscillator ever made in the world. However, behind this symbol of perfection, we also manufacture a complete range of products, including single-oven and double-oven oscillators, targeted at the synchronization of mobile base stations and other telecommunications equipment.

Nowadays, Oscilloquartz' core business is supplying high-quality synchronization solutions. Our goal is to provide the telecom industry with turnkey solutions for synchronization of all types of telecommunications networks. Sync solutions offered by Oscilloquartz cover the generation of primary references clocks (level 1) and the distribution of this reference throughout telecom networks, together with the local regeneration and distribution of clocking references (level 2 and level 3).

Additionally, Oscilloquartz' truly integrated remote management solutions offer a wide range of technology, including our proprietary SyncView Plus manager and includes (as SyncView agents or embedded solutions), Q3, SNMP, TL1 interfaces.

Oscilloquartz regularly brings new equipment to the market. After the dual GPS 5581C, the single channel GPS 5240, the complete OEM GPS board family, Oscilloquartz has introduced the latest TSG: The OSA 5548C. It has a modular design, is very easy to use, self maintainable (such as remote download of firmware feature), and integrates the state-of-the-art internal technology. This TSG can be configured in many variants, such as ETSI/ANSI mount, front/rear connection, rubidium/quartz channels, dual redundant GPS embedded, main, expansion or remote shelf, based on two basic shelves, one up to 60 protected outputs, and one up to 200 protected outputs. Our SyncView Plus allows the customer to manage full alarm and control of the equipment remotely.

Oscilloquartz is the right partner for your synchronization needs. Our broad selection of services allows us to support any "world wide customer" to address synchronization issues from a global perspective, from planning, audit, installation and commissioning, up to training, maintenance. Oscilloquartz Customer Support portfolio offers complete set of relevant worldwide after-sales support.

Oscilloquartz offers a variety of services to its customers. Can you describe how these services benefit your clients?

Oscilloquartz believes the key to achieving total customer satisfaction lies in the services it provides before, during and after the delivery of equipment. Our services ensure successful product implementation and long-life operation. We pride ourselves on being the most flexible and customer-focused company in our industry. Our staff is always available to answer our customers’ questions and provide help.

Among the services Oscilloquartz can provide its customers are:

  • Network sync audit concept, planning, coaching, and configuration.
  • Extensive product training, available either on-site or at OSA.
  • Specialized sync seminars (our next one is June 3-6 in Neuchatel, Switzerland).
  • Turnkey installation and commissioning.
  • Service and support maintenance agreements.

OSA is so confident about the quality of our products that we warranty them for two years. Extended warranty agreements are available.

Tell our audience about your 13th Sync Seminar, which takes place June 3-6 in Switzerland.

Oscilloquartz offers its synchronization expertise to the industry through its world-renowned Sync Seminars. The seminars are updated yearly to meet the new and more stringent requirements of the synchronization world. This year’s Sync Seminar will take place in Switzerland on June 3-6. It will include a live demonstration simulation of IEEE 1588 (PTP), as well as strategies for sync network planning and deployment.

Over the years, the Sync Seminar has been attended by representatives of the world’s leading wireless and wireline companies. For more information please see our Web site: www.oscilloquartz.com.

Please tell us the value you gain from your TIA membership.

As the “Founding Father of Sync,” it is critical for Oscilloquartz to be a part of industry associations such as TIA. TIA allows us be involved in setting the standards for our industry. It also allows us to stay close to our customers and their industries, to listen to their plans, and anticipate their needs – both now and in the future.
