The $500-billion U.S. enterprise and consumer market grew 12.6 percent last year from 2006. The market is thoroughly examined in TIA’s 2008 Telecommunications Market Review and Forecast, along with other key ICT segments, from landline to wireless, domestic to international. Among the key enterprise and consumer market findings in the new 400-page report:
- Double-digit gains in support services, unified communications and Web conferencing offset a decline in consumer equipment and low-to-mid single-digit increases in the other categories.
- Growth in those same services will propel the overall market at a 9.7 percent compound annual rate to $724.1 billion in 2011.
- Convergence of enterprise equipment to Internet protocol technologies is driving the enterprise equipment and services market, and unified communications ─ the technology that allows messages received in one format to be retrieved through another ─ has emerged as the principal driver of convergence.
- Demand for unified communications is driven by the productivity benefits it provides, as it facilitates communication on any device connected to the converged network, resulting in significant savings in time and faster decision making.
Unified communications is fueling the conferencing market. Collaboration is facilitated when conferences can be initiated from the desktop and readily expanded to include more people as needed, further enhancing productivity.
