A key message can be deduced from TIA’s 2008 Telecommunications Market Review and Forecast:
Do not ignore the international marketplace… particularly Asia Pacific! It offers the hottest opportunity as the fastest-growing region in 2007, with a 17.1 percent revenue increase. The TIA report forecasts an average growth of 13 percent compounded annually through 2011, increasing to $1.4 trillion.
Looking more closely at Asia Pacific, note:
- High-speed wireless networks and broadband access are the key drivers, with wireless viewed as both a means of extending telephone connectivity and of facilitating a rapidly growing mobile Internet access and content market.
- Despite having the largest wireless subscriber base in the world at 1.3 billion in 2007, the region is still adding more subscribers annually than it did during the first half of the decade…an additional 976 million are expected through 2011.
- The broadband market is surging even more dramatically, driven by the desire to access online entertainment such as video games, music and movies. Gains will total 156 million during the next four years, reaching 296 million subscribers in the region in 2011.
- Currently 2.37 billion people in the region are without a wireless subscription, but despite huge progress anticipated during the next four years, TIA estimates there still will be 1.56 billion without service in 2011.
