TIA Welcomes One of Its Newest Members, BroadLight!
BroadLight is a fabless semiconductor company supplying IC devices and solutions to equipment vendors for FTTH applications. Its technology spans from optical access to home networking enabling delivery of highly integrated, low-cost, end-to-end (E2E) solutions from the central office to the customer premise. As a pioneer in Passive Optical Network (PON) ICs, BroadLight's ground-breaking first-to-market products are delivering the majority of today's BPON and GPON solutions worldwide. Since its founding in June 2000, BroadLight has established itself globally with offices in Santa Clara, California; Ramat Gan, Israel; Taipei, Taiwan; and Shanghai, China.

BroadLight’s CEO, Raanan Gewirtzman, brings more than 20 years of management experience in semiconductor and software development and operations. Under his leadership, BroadLight delivered the industry's first E2E GPON solution establishing the company as a clear market leader. Prior to becoming CEO, Gewirtzman was BroadLight's COO, managing BroadLight's strategic suppliers and successfully ramping up the production lines of its silicon and transceivers products for high volume. Prior to BroadLight, he held key management positions with Virata Corporation and IBM Research and Development. Raanan holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering and a BSc in Computer Engineering from Technion Institute of Technology.
Mr. Gewirtzman spoke with TIA Network staff about BroadLight:
Please tell which aspects of your TIA membership are most valuable to BroadLight.
BroadLight values exhibiting at NXTcomm, market information and exposure.
How is BroadLight addressing current trends in the industry? What are you doing to get ahead of the competition? Is the current economic environment affecting your company, and what are you doing to address the challenges?
The trend in the semiconductor industry has always been smaller, faster, cheaper. This is achieved through integration and silicon processes. To compete, BroadLight strives to be first-to-market in order to secure designs based on our technology both in hardware and software. At the same time, our products are generally smaller, faster and have the same cost profile as others. An important trend now is power saving. BroadLight has been intensely focused on dramatically reducing power in central office and customer premise equipment. So far our industry has not been affected by the economic slowdown, since our market is based on deployment of fiber to the home and not consumer electronics.
Tell us about your recent partnership with AudioCodes to deliver advanced VoIP services over GPON Networks. What does this mean for your clients?
BroadLight is the GPON IC leader and AudioCodes has a strong position in VoIP. Combining the VoIP technology on our GPON CPE SoC allows our customers can get to market quickly with low risk.
What publications do you follow to stay in the know?
We read Lightwave, Broadband Properties and IEEE ComSoc publications.
