Intelligent Transportation Systems Meeting Begins April 14 in Munich

More than 120 participants from over 20 countries will gather in Munich, Germany, April 14-18 for the 31st meeting of the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 204 for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS); ISO/TC204. As the premier organization for international ITS standardization, the weeklong series of meetings will focus on diverse set of emerging ITS standards in such fields as architecture; database technologies; automotive vehicle and equipment identification; fee and toll collection; general fleet management and commercial/freight; public transport/emergency; integrated transport information, management and control; traveler information systems; vehicle/roadway warning and control systems; dedicated short range communications; wide area communications/protocols and interfaces; and nomadic devices.

The five-day series of meetings will cover the entire committee program of work, including the introduction of new work items as well as a report on the first meeting of the new TC204 working group 17, “Nomadic Devices.”

If you wish to participate in any of these meetings, please contact Tyler Messa (information below). Organizations may send experts to participate internationally or as part of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (U.S. TAG), the domestic mirror committee and official U.S. delegation to ISO/TC204.

As both the ISO/TC204 International Secretariat and the Administrator of the U.S. TAG, TIA plays a central role in helping shape standardization in this emerging and dynamic field. Membership in the committee is open to all materially-affected organizations with a U.S. presence. Currently there is no fee to join, although sponsorships are welcome. If you would like to participate in the technical work of either group, or are interested in attending the next meeting of the U.S. TAG as an observer, please contact Tyler Messa at: tmessa@tiaonline.org or +1.703.907.7743

TIA Publishes UMB Standards Suite

TIA has published a suite of Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) air interface standards numbered as TIA-1121.000 through TIA-1121.008.

The TIA-1121 documents form the compatibility specification for the UMB air interface systems, including requirements that a compliant access terminal can obtain service through any access networks conforming to the standard, without addressing the reliability, performance or measurement procedures of that service.  The standards address design and implementation of access terminals to ensure uniform response to all access networks, and also include provisions for future service additions and expansion of system capabilities through the architecture defined in the documents.

The new standards contain a basic overview of the UMB air interface (TIA-1121.000); a physical layer specification (TIA-1121.001); a medium access control specification (TIA-1121.002); a radio link layer specification (TIA-1121.003); an application layer specification (TIA-1121.004); a security functions specification (TIA-1121.005); a connection control plane specification (TIA-1121.006); a session control plane specification (TIA-1121.007); and a route control plane specification (TIA-1121.008).

The TIA-1121 suite was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-45: Mobile and Personal Communications Systems Engineering Committee’s TR-45.5: Spread Spectrum Digital Technology Subcommittee. To obtain copies of the document, contact Information Handling Services at (800) 854-7179 or visit http://global.ihs.com.

TIA Publishes Public Safety Console Standard

TIA has published the TIA-102.BAGA standard, Project 25 Console Subsystem Interface Overview. The new standard was developed in collaboration with prominent public safety organizations under the Project 25 banner to clarify key technical requirements and standards considerations supporting specification of the Console Subsystem Interface (CSSI).

TIA-102.BAGA deals with information relevant to the development of standards supporting voice services and certain CSSI supplemental services.  The purpose of this document is to provide an informative overview of key technical requirements and standards considerations supporting specification of the CSSI.  Integral to the Project 25 system architecture, technical specification of the CSSI as an open interface enables functional capabilities on an interoperable and non-proprietary basis.  The document is, therefore, primarily intended to facilitate the development of technical standards defining the service and protocol aspects of the CSSI.  In addition, the document facilitates development of technical standards concerning definition of measurement methods, performance recommendations, conformance tests, and interoperability test methods involving the CSSI.

The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO); the National Association of State Telecommunications Directors (NASTD); and Federal Government Agencies (FED), known as APCO/NASTD/FED, issue common system standards for digital public safety radio communications (APCO/NASTD/FED Project 25 standard). TIA, in cooperation with APCO/NASTD/FED, has generated standards, interim standards, specifications and telecommunications systems bulletins that define the equipment and processes necessary for implementation of the APCO/NASTD/FED Project 25 standard.

TIA-102.BAGA was formulated under the cognizance of the TIA TR-8: Mobile and Personal Private Radio Standards Engineering Committee’s TR-8.19: Wireline System Interfaces Subcommittee. To obtain copies of the document, contact Information Handling Services at (800) 854-7179 or visit http://global.ihs.com.

For technical information regarding participating in the TR-8 committee please contact Ronda Coulter at rcoulter@tiaonline.org.  For press questions please contact Taly Walsh at twalsh@tiaonline.org.

The companies participating in TR-8 are: Aeroflex, Agilent Technologies, Inc., Alcatel-Lucent, APCO Project 25, Aselsan Inc., Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Cisco Systems, Inc., City of Mesa, Communications Div., CML Microcircuits (USA) Inc., CommScope Network Division, CSI Telecommunications, Daniels Electronics Ltd., Datron World Comm.
